Proof is in the Pudding

Proof is in the Pudding

This phrase is used to encourage someone not to judge the quality of something until they’ve tried it.

The earliest published example of this phrase is from William Camden’s collection of themed historical essays, Remaines of a Greater Worke Conerning Britaine, in 1605.

“All the proof of a pudding is in the eating,” he wrote.
