More tough news for Saskatchewan pulse growers.

India is raising the tariff on chickpeas another ten percent to a total of 40 percent.

Grain Analyst, Greg Kostal remains optimistic efforts to diversify markets will be helpful for prairie farmers.

“We’ve been through this before, but the reasons are radically different,” Kostal said.

“There’s some good demand components with field peas as an example, in the protein fracking and the starch story that I think are going to become paramount and ultimately displace the reliance that we’ve had on India in the past,” he said.
