Enough moisture predicted to get crop into the ground

Producers taking part in the West Central Ag Outlook and Cropportunities event had an opportunity to get a bit of a weather preview from Agri-meteorologist Drew Lerner with World Weather Inc.

Lerner says at this point farmers in most areas of the province should have sufficient moisture to at least get the crop in the ground this spring.

"Being able to sustain the crop without a good follow up rain is going to be difficult to do," he said. "We're still going to be a little behind the eight ball of a while making sure that we can get some regular acurring rainfall or at least a good soaking to get into that sub soil."

Lerner notes that for Saskatchewan March will finish out with a very limited amount of additional moisture; while in April things look to improve for the southeastern part of the province.

"It will bring more relief for Manitoba and southwest of Saskatchewan," he said. "The farther west you go in Saskatchewan the more difficult it is going to be to get good moisture at least in the first half of April."
